The History of Mission Hills Country Club

Rancho Mirage, which was once known as a private retreat from Palm Springs, was the brainchild of Oklahoma businessman, Max Genet. He purchased 640 acres of land in Rancho Mirage in 1964, with the idea of transforming it into a golf community. Max hired Desmond Muirhead to design an 18-hole golf course; by the time the course had been completed in the early 1970s, ownership had changed hands a few times.

Seven years later, in 1979, a second golf course was added to Mission Hills. This course was designed by legendary golfer Arnold Palmer. Ownership of the golf course community changed hands a few more times in the following years, and an additional 960 acres of land were also purchased during that time.

The extra land allowed the owners to develop a third golf course, which was designed by legendary golf architect Pete Dye and completed in 1998, as well as the 55,000 square foot clubhouse, which was completed in 1986.

ClubCorp purchased Mission Hills Country Club in 1993 and in 2006 the new, state-of-the-art spa and sports center opened.
